  • Brooklyn is getting a new pressing plant. The venture, called Brooklyn Vinyl Works, is the brainchild of Will Socolov, the longtime New York music industry figure who ran Sleeping Bag Records with Arthur Russell in the '80s. Socolov isn't a stranger to this particular aspect of the biz—he ran a pressing plant called EKS Manufacturing for ten years, pressing up some eight million records for indie labels like DFA and Captured Tracks. BVW is slated to run 24 hours a day, and Socolov says they've "already raised the necessary funds to purchase a building in Brooklyn and are well on our way to completing the construction." They've started a Kickstarter campaign to raise $100,000 more to complete the plant's infrastructure—a new boiler, a shrinkwrap machine, grinders and hydraulics equipment are all on the shopping list—and then to buy and restore more presses. The video below has full details on the project. According to BVW's website, they're already accepting orders for August delivery.
