- C-ORE features new tracks from Rahel Ali and Violence, as well as Blanco himself.
Mykki Blanco is starting his own label, Dogfood Music Group, with the C-ORE compilation on September 18th.
The New York artist has been hinting at the new label—which is named after his album from last year—for a while, including with a New York event last week. Dogfood Music Group is a sub-label of !K7 meant to "give voices to the underground artists that inspire their communities, contribute to and share Mykki's artistic vision and transcend conventional cultural boundaries [and] constructs."
The first release is C-ORE, a compilation that shows off three Dogfood roster artists in addition to new tracks from Blanco himself. There's Yves Tumor, an alias of artist Rahel Ali, who toured with Blanco in 2013, and Violence, an American artist whose work on the compilation explores "the technological overstimulation of a proto-human archetype, spoken through hard body grime and charged flows." And then there's Psychoegyptian, AKA Devin Kyle Cuthbertson, whose work is highly conceptual and focuses around a black anime star called hOla zygOte who lives in "the cyberspace of PsychoEgypt."
"We are a group of friends who have created a release that represents a slice of what we're into, our culture and what we want to show the world," Blanco says. "People all over the world are only fed this singular image of 'African American Music' and we want to disrupt that. We all come from backgrounds outside of the black American norm, and the world deserves to see our culture as much as anything else."
