- The online, automated mastering service says their latest tweak should bring it even closer to the work done by a professional mastering engineer.
LANDR is upgrading.
The service offers near-instantaneous algorithmic mastering from their website. Though the services of a professional mastering engineer will offer more tailored results, LANDR nevertheless impressed our tech reviewer Jono Buchanan around the time of its launch last year. It's now entering its latest version, called Ionian 1.0. The company says it "marks vast improvements across genre-detection, machine-learning, dynamics processing (especially in drops and breaks) and mix-correction—resulting in an incredibly smooth sound that rivals the work of professional sound engineers." In terms of mix-correction, LANDR has tweaked the way it treats bass and upper-high frequencies, which should result in punchier, crisper tracks. Its use of tools like EQ, multiband compression, limiting and stereo enhancement has also been touched up for the latest version.
Along with outlining the latest version, LANDR has also announced that they've received a new round of funding, to the tune of $6.2 million. Major label Warner Music Group was identified as the leading investor, with famed New York rapper Nas also credited with providing "substantial investment."
