Popular Italian club Cocoricò has been shut down for four months following a recent drug death.
Located in Riccione in Italy's north, Cocoricò is among the country's best-known venues for house and techno. It hosts top-tier international headliners on a weekly basis, bringing up to 2,500 clubbers through its doors each night. The Guardian reports that Cocoricò has been the site of 118 incidents requiring a police response since it opened, many of them drug-related.
The closure has reportedly been a major topic in media across Italy, largely thanks to the most recent major incident: the death of 16-year-old boy. The Guardian states that the closure—implemented on Sunday, August 2nd—has been a front page story on numerous national papers, prompting statements from politicians, celebrities and other personalities. A report in La Repubblica newspaper also claims Cocoricò is being investigated for tax evasion.
