- The latest record is the second in a trilogy from the New York artist exploring 'the difficulty of making personal connections.'
Autre Ne Veut will release his next album on October 2nd.
The Age Of Transparency follows 2013's Anxiety, which we said "present[ed] his fidgety songwriting in its full splendour" in a review at the time. It's the second instalment in a trilogy that explores "the difficulty of making personal connections in an impersonal time," and the title is inspired by marketing jargon.
For this one, Arthur Ashin started off sessions with a jazz group and then took the recordings home and started manipulating them until they sounded more like the outré-R&B he's been associated with thus far. "The players are there to give you an impression of transparency," he explains, "but they're constantly being disrupted."
"Transparency is an impossibility," Ashin adds. "It's more about trying to be transparent and falling on your face in the process."
The LP, which was self-produced by Ashin but mixed by noted pop producer Tony Maserati, is coming out via Downtown. Check out the video for "World War Pt. 2" below.
