  • You can now make your own Stems. Backed by Native Instruments but open-source, the new audio format gives access to four separate "stems" within a full mix, allowing DJs to do more complex mixing than would be possible within a stereo file alone. Though numerous labels have already signed on and the format has had its official rollout, the promised Stems Creator Tool was not yet available. As of right now, though, it's gone public. (You can grab it here.) The current version is a beta release, though NI says it is "very stable and produces Stems correctly." The music software maker has posted a video, embedded below, which walks you through the process of creating a Stem file, and you can also sign up for the Stems newsletter for more information.
