  • One of The Silent Barn's third floor apartments caught fire this past weekend, causing serious damage to the venue and its adjacent residencies. There was a show taking place in The Silent Barn's main performance space last Friday when a fire broke out in one of the upstairs apartments connected to the venue. It is expected to have been caused by an electrical malfunction, say organizers in a recent statement. Though everyone made it out of the building safely, the fire "destroyed the room where it began and caused smoke and water damage to the surrounding apartments and to our performance space," the statement continues. Because of the damage, they will be unable to host shows in their main venue until further notice, though their studios and courtyard will still be open for events. While the building is insured, many of the residents' personal belongings were not. Silent Barn is accepting donations in order to recoup the cost of personal losses and the loss of revenue from being unable to book shows or rent apartments. "We are currently working to move our existing shows over the next three weeks to neighboring venues. It may even be possible to host some of those smaller shows in other areas of the space," they explain. "We’ll have a more accurate timeline within the next week, as damages are assessed."
