  • A driver who killed four people at the 2014 SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, has been sentenced to life in jail with no parole. Rashad Owens, 23, was found guilty of capital murder by a jury following a weeklong trial in Travis County. In March last year Owens drove his Honda Civic into a crowd of people while fleeing police, killing four and injuring scores more. As The Austin-American Statesman report, local police had spotted Owens at about 12:30 AM on March 13th, 2014, driving without headlights and then turning on Interstate 35 from the wrong lane. A brief chase followed before Owens crashed into the crowd of people milling outside a venue on Red River Street. Photo credit: BBC
