  • Nils Frahm has collaborated with childhood friends Frederic Gmeiner and Sebastian Singwald for an album on R&S Records as nonkeen. The trio's LP, titled The Gamble, contains a selection of songs made by Frahm, Gmeiner and Singwald, who met at a primary school in Hamburg in the '80s. Frahm engineered the tapes, which were recorded at a number of rehearsal spaces over the course of a decade. All three had been interested in sound recording from a young age—Frahm and Gmeiner had their own radio show at school in Hamburg, and they became friends with Berlin-based Singwald when he visited their school for a two-week exchange in 1989. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, they spent time together recording and performing, before falling out of touch and then reconnecting when they were in their twenties. The trio's improvisational recordings eventually made their way into Frahm's studio, where they would be further tweaked, eventually finding the form they take on The Gamble. R&S will release The Gamble on February 5th, 2016. Photo credit: Studio Spektral
