  • Native Instruments has just released iMaschine 2. The original version of the iOS app was marketed as a sketchpad for musical ideas or a fun, low-commitment way of making a tune on the go. For Version 2, NI has added a number of features that make it closer to an extension of their Maschine hardware/software beatmaking platform. At the heart of the update are a number of modes. There's an arranger for fleshing out loops and scenes into full tracks, a step mode that turns the app's four-by-four pad grid into a sequencer, scale and chord modes to aid in producing melodies and an arpeggiator. Many of iMaschine 2's features are optimized for iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, making use of the phone's 3D touch feature to allow for quick access to features and intuitive augmentation of parameters. NI has also brought in color coding to help you keep things organized. Projects started in iMaschine 2 can be exported into the full Maschine software. Have a look at iMaschine 2 in action below.
iMaschine 2 is now available from Native Instruments for $4.99.
