  • Malmö techno artist Rivet is launching his own label, Kess Kill. Rivet, real name Mika Hallbäck (who previously produced as Grovskopa), is well-regarded for his production chops—earning him releases on labels like Skudge and Kontra-Musik—and his deftness behind the decks. He's also known for sharing his tastes in music with the Rivet Selections blog. Now he'll put his curatorial skills to work with Kess Kill. The new label, with an ear for both brand-new music and older material, aims to "continue the legacy started 1979 [through] 1983 by bands like Liaisons Dangereuses, Tommi Stumpff, Xao Seffcheque, Geile Tiere and others. Music that oozed techno, long before techno was a concept." (The Liaisons Dangereuses track "Kess Kill Fé Show" seems to be a particular source of inspiration.) Given that goal, it looks like we can expect a mix of EBM, industrial, new wave and beyond. First up on Kess Kill is Cute Heels, AKA Victor Lenis, a Berlin-based Colombian artist who runs his own labels, Black Leather Records and Romance Moderne. Lenis's most recent solo record as Cute Heels came through the new Glasgow imprint Schrödinger's Box last fall; prior to that, in early 2014, he saw his debut album Spiritual released on Dark Entries. His two-tracker for Kess Kill, simply titled KESS01, will come out at the beginning of February. Get an idea of how it sounds over on Instagram. Tracklist 01. Verge 02. Icarus IV Kess Kill will release KESS01 on February 1st, 2016.
