  • Vancouver record shop Pacific Rhythm is closing its Chinatown storefront. Pacific Rhythm, which started as an online record shop, opened its brick-and-mortar store at 441 Gore Ave last February and has since hosted a number of in-store sets and other parties. The shop originally shared the space with a general goods store called Snack City, before Black Medicine Tattoo moved in. Now, as the tattoo business has "grown exponentially," it'll be taking over the rest of the shop. That means Pacific Rhythm will operate as an online-only store for the next few months, according to a post on Instagram. The crew behind the store plan to continue their record label and relaunch their website soon. They're also hoping to move into a new retail space by the end of 2016. Before then, Pacific Rhythm will play host to a ten-hour takeover of NTS Radio with all Vancouver artists this coming Monday, January 25th, though details for that are still under wraps. You can read Pacific Rhythm's full statement below.
Hello citizens of Vancouver, British Columbia and beyond, As a few of you may have heard January 2016 will be Pacific Rhythm's last month stationed at 441 Gore Avenue. Our friends at @blackmedicinetattoo have grown exponentially over the last few months and it's time for them to expand into the rest of the shop. We'll be taking the next few months to concentrate on releasing records and focusing our attention on our soon to be relaunched online store. We have plans to return to a new mixed retail space sometime before the end of 2016 (Canadian dollar permitting). We are also currently working on a handful of events that we'll be announcing shortly, including a special 10 hour live radio broadcast that will take place in-store early next week. In the meanwhile we'll be putting all remaining stock on sale, come by and snag something special at a nice price. Thanks to everybody who came through 441 Gore this past year, it meant the world to us. See you around!
