  • Telefon Tel Aviv will perform at the Regent Theater in LA on April 2nd. Josh Eustis, who survives Telefon Tel Aviv co-founder Charlie Cooper, has focused on other projects since the last LP, 2009's Immolate Yourself. Since then, Eustis has played live with Nine Inch Nails, released an album as Sons Of Magdalene and joined Tropic Of Cancer as a touring member. He's also working on a new project called The Black Queen. Deru, the Emmy-winning Friends Of Friends signee, will perform his 2014 record 1979 at the April show alongside Eustis. And Telefon Tel Aviv will also perform at the second edition of the Further Future festival, set to go down in the Nevada desert in late April. We spoke with Eustis about reviving Telefon Tel Aviv ahead of April's show.
When was the last Telefon Tel Aviv show and what motivated you to bring back the project? I can't quite remember when the last show was. I want to say it was late 2009. Someone else might have more accurate information! [Editor's note: it was 2010.] As far as motivation, Ben Wynn (Deru) gave me an opportunity to do something and it made a lot of sense. I've wanted to try to get back into doing Telefon Tel Aviv, and to give it real effort before just abandoning it out of self-pity. And as it turns out, there's material that seems to only make sense as Telefon Tel Aviv kinda taking up some space on the hard drive right now. What's the reaction been like upon the news that you're bringing it back? In all honesty I've never experienced such a powerful amount of support in my entire career. It was shocking. I didn't think anyone would notice, or care—and maybe they don't, really—but it seems like they do. Let's see if they come to the show though, eh? Going back to your previous answer, can we expect new TTA material? Ummm… yes.
