  • A demonstration in support of Golden Pudel is planned for Friday evening, February 19th, in Hamburg. The club sent out a statement alerting people to the demonstration earlier today. In it, Golden Pudel booker and spokesperson Ralf Köster explains the protesters' demands, which essentially aim to guarantee the club's longevity and existence in its current form. The statement also describes some of the unreported consequences of last weekend's fire: in addition to extensive fire damage upstairs, a refugee's makeshift tent home was destroyed, and the archives of local activist group Park Fiction were waterlogged. Read an excerpt from the statement here:
This would not be the first attempt in St. Pauli, to evict users-as-obstacles-of-investment by fire. Just in case, someone plans to take advantage out of the situation: Be warned, moneybags! THIS BONE IS TOO BIG FOR YOU Because we will not let anything happen here, apart from: 1. The original Pudel, just where it is 2. Building and ground secured in an uncommercial form, forever 3. An active space in the top floor for daytime use, for the neighbourhood, for hard-to-understand-art, for poodle-booking, discussions, for the Park Fiction Archive, for Right-to-the-City-issues, for subcultures. Once upon a time, a legendary pirate in Hamburg, after being beheaded, managed to run for another ten meters—without his head. Also the Pudel Club lives, even without a roof. It has always been held together by love for music, by a crude sense of humour, by dancing feet, by posters without any informational value, by philosophy at the bar. Poodles are not only funny and pretty. They can bite as well.
The demonstration is planned to get underway at FC St. Pauli at 8.30 PM tomorrow evening. There's more information (in German) on a Facebook event page.
