SOPHIE, The Haxan Cloak play Nonobject(ive) series at LA museum The Broad

- Downtown LA art museum The Broad has announced four Nonobject(ive) events running from June to September. The museum, an impressive structure that opened in Downtown LA in 2015 and takes its name from the collector and philanthropist Eli Broad, has roped in guest curators Brandon Stosuy (of Pitchfork) and Bradford Nordeen for the series, which integrates musical artists into ambitious programs tied to exhibitions. The first event happens June 25th, taking inspiration from the work of conceptual photographer Cindy Sherman. Editions Mego act Cindytalk will perform, as will Perfume Genius. The July 30th Nonobject(ive) looks to the Downtown New York scene. Punk pioneer Richard Hell will stage a reading over soundscapes provided by ambient producer The Haxan Cloak. Recent Breaking Through star Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith will bring her Buchla out for that one. The third show, set for August 20th, sees former Vampire Weekend man Rostam atop a lineup that also includes William Basinski's new lounge band, Sparkle Division and footwork artist Jlin. The series ends on September 24th with a Nonobject(ive) event dedicated to rave and club cultures. SOPHIE headlines alongside a multimedia performance from Tri Angle act Vessel. Ethereal vocalist Julianna Barwick will perform with visual accompaniment from Charles Atlas, while Elysia Crampton is set to DJ.
