  • Continuing their long tradition of helping protect the copyright interests of their members, APRA (Australasian Performing Rights Association) have pledged their support for Motorola Dance Music Awards by sponsoring the Best Album category. APRA's members comprise of producers, creators, composers and publishers of various musical styles and have accumulated vast memberships over their 77 year existence. "Dance is, without a doubt, the most rapidly developing musical genre in this country and is now firmly entrenched as a vital part of the local and global music industries," Dean Ormston, APRA Director, said. "In recent years we've seen the Australian dance music scene diversify and evolve to a 'world class' standard, Whether it's hip-hop, techno, electronica, drum 'n bass, funk etc, there is nowadays an abundance of top-notch dance releases appearing on the scene – and more importantly crossing over into the general public." Marnie Neck, producer of the 2003 DMAs said "APRA's generous and continuing support demonstrates that dance music and its creators are not just appreciated by the fans, but respected by the industry." The 2003 DMA's are still a while off on Wednesday November 12 at the Parade Theatre. Keep an eye out for more news leading up to the big awards.
