- Tumbers From The Vault collects tracks from 1970 through 1972.
RVNG Intl will profile the Toronto psych group Syrinx with a retrospective, Tumblers From The Vault (1970 – 1972).
The short-lived trio included composer and keyboardist John Mills-Cockell, saxophonist Doug Pringle and percussionist Alan Wells. It was originally founded as a solo outlet for Mills-Cockell's solo Moog experiments, following the dissolution of his multimedia music and art ensemble, Intersystems. But by 1970 Syrinx had expanded into a three-piece with "a sound that hybridized chamber music dynamics with wild yet tuneful electronic melodicism," the label says.
The forthcoming retrospective includes tracks from both of their albums, plus recordings from the live performance Stringspace, where they play alongside the Toronto Repertory Ensemble. The release is accompanied by a new documentary about the group from artist and filmmaker Zoe Kirk-Gushowaty, which will screen at select venues.
