  • The first edition of Boomtown Winter Gathering will not take place in December, following a car park fire and the death of an 18-year-old woman at Boomtown Fair 2016. Billed as "the UK's biggest indoor festival," Winter Gathering was set to take place on Saturday, December 10th at Royal Bath and West Showground. However, a Facebook post from the organisers on August 18th—the day tickets were due to go on sale—confirmed that the event had been cancelled so that the team could "take some time to take stock of" incidents that marred the eighth edition of Boomtown Fair, which ran from August 11th through 14th at Winchester's Matterley Bowl. "As a very close team with so much love for the community that is created at Boomtown, we are absolutely devastated by the news of our festival attendee who tragically passed away. Our thoughts are with the young lady's family, friends and loved ones," reads the statement. "We are also currently going through the process to follow up individually with all those affected by the fire, and feel that focussing our energy on these incidents is where it is best placed at this time." According to The Guardian, the woman, who has not been named, was found unconscious by paramedics on the afternoon of Monday, August 15th. She's the fourth person to die at the festival since its inception in 2008.
