  • Argot has announced an ambitious reissue campaign based around '90s music from the Chicago duo Shifty Science. Shifty Science was made up of the Windy City producers Chris Ike and John Kardaras. They put out a couple of releases as Shifty Science, Black Ant Productions and Ping & Baz, but Lab Work 91-96 is culled from a CD of unreleased tracks Kardaras gave to Argot boss Steve Mizek back in 2010. Mizek found the CD-R last year and reached out to the duo, offering to put out a full-length collection of these unheard tunes from the '90s. Argot describes Lab Work as "hybrids of then-contemporary sounds, from Warp-influenced house to bold, dynamic nods to Detroit techno, as well as more assertive party-starting tracks and banging experiments." Mizek and his DJ and label partner Savile recently prepared a few edits of the material to play out during their increasingly frequent US and European jaunts. Those will get a release on vinyl as Versions For Modern Dancefloors. That one will be packaged with a zine laying out the project's "missing link" importance. Tracklist Lab Work 91-96 01.
