Bjarki is taking to the name Cucumb45 for a new EP on bbbbbb.
The Icelandic artist has drawn plenty of praise over the past couple years with his adventurous approach to dance music, as heard on the prolific stream of productions he's released through Nina Kraviz's label трип. This month he launched bbbbbb together with his friend Johnny Chrome Silver, and the new project is moving quickly, if also somewhat stealthily. Its first release was a reissue of X-Static's 1992 hardcore cut "My Inspiration," backed by a Bjarki remix, and apparently following that one are two hand-stamped, vinyl-only releases, "to be sought out from your local dealer."
Up next and due out in late March is bbbbbb's fourth release, Something Weirdcore, which looks to be the first record credited to Bjarki's Cucumb45 alias. We're told to expect a wide-ranging set of five tracks, which suggest "elements of jungle, breakbeat, techno and rave" while "frequently switching from euphoric to anxious." No audio for the EP has been posted yet.
