BCM and Tito's, two of Mallorca's most popular nightclubs, have closed.
Calvià municipality authorities shut BCM last Friday. Irregularities stemming from building works carried out in 2015 were discovered by inspectors. Tito's, the island's oldest club, was shuttered after a court order on March 29th from authorities in Palma cited safety breaches, including, according to Diario de Mallorca, inadequate fire protection and evacuation measures.
Both clubs are owned by nightlife entrepreneur Bartolomé Cursach, who has been in prison since March 3rd. Two Cursach Group employees—Bartolomé Sber and Antoni Bergas—were also arrested following police raids on multiple properties. (Cursach and Sber have since resigned from Cursach Group.) Cursach is facing 16 charges, which include murder and extortion. Some charges appear to implicate government and police officials. A Calvià town hall official, Jaume Nadal, was sacked in February after allegedly obstructing an investigation into BCM's license.
Luciano was scheduled to play BCM on April 13th. There's no word on when BCM or Tito's will reopen.
