  • Kodwo Eshun's More Brilliant Than The Sun is being republished in October. The book, which originally came out in 1998, has become a foundational text on Afrofuturism and particularly electronic music. It examines the connections between science fiction narratives and the music of artists like Underground Resistance, Alice Coltrane, Lee "Scratch" Perry and Parliament Funkadelic, highlighting the history and possibilities of Afrofuturism. Eshun's writing has been a noted influence on many contemporary electronic music artists, including Hyperdub founder Kode9, AKA Steve Goodman, who provides an introduction for the new version. There is also an introduction by filmmaker John Akomfrah. The new edition from Verso Books hits shelves (and digital retailers) on October 9th.
