  • A new Richard H Kirk full-length, Dasein, arrives in a few days. Dasein is the Sheffield artist and Cabaret Voltaire member's first solo LP in six years. It's been in the works since 2014, when he reformed Cabaret Voltaire as a one-man operation, and it includes his first use of vocals in ten years. The title, German for "being there" or "existence," refers to a core tenet of the philosophy of existentialism, as theorized in Heidegger's early works. "Culture succumbs to nostalgia in much the same way that an individual looks back wistfully to adolescence or childhood," Kirk says. "The nostalgia is partly for a time when he or she wasn't nostalgic, just lived purely in the now." About any political themes suggested in the names of some of Dasein's nine tracks, Kirk explains, "It's not really a political album, but over recent years—during the recording—all manner of horror show events have cropped up and now we seem to be in a rerun of the Cold War, with Russia back as the Bogeyman." The album will get a release on CD and clear double-vinyl formats through Kirk's own Intone label. Try out samples at Forced Exposure. Listen to album track "Nuclear Cloud."
