- The artist, formerly known as Throwing Shade, will put out her debut LP in December.
Nabihah Iqbal, previously known as Throwing Shade, is releasing her debut album on December 1st.
It's called Weighing Of The Heart and it's coming out via the UK label Ninja Tune. Iqbal says the decision to revert to her birth name, and dispense with the Throwing Shade alias, is down to her desire to stand proud as a British-Asian female artist. She performed and produced everything on the record, which she made in her studio within Damon Albarn's Studio 13 complex. It was then mixed by Studio 13's Stephen Sedgwick, who also mixed Gorillaz's most recent album, Humanz.
Weighing Of The Heart's first single, "Something More," is out today. Iqbal calls it "a song about a universal feeling that everyone shares, even if they try to hide or ignore it." She adds: "It's about how true happiness and freedom only exist in the dimension of our fantasies, dreams and private thoughts. The reality of our physical existence constantly leaves us dissatisfied, frustrated and yearning for 'something more,' even though we'll never find a way to remedy these feelings."
Listen to "Something More."
