  • California digital audio company Apogee is seeking support as US tariffs on Chinese components force prices to rise. Best-known for high-end sound cards like the Duet and Ensemble, Apogee published an open letter last week urging readers to contact elected representatives in protest of the tariffs. The company says the new 25% tax on components "will affect a large percentage of our material costs, which will ultimately result in price increases," and warns of moving operations off-shore: "In order to stay competitive we may need to look outside the US to manufacture our products, which goes against our company philosophy. This ultimately can have an impact on the employees of Apogee, their families, and our ability to keep our charitable commitments." Apogee isn't the only music tech company in the States to come out against the new tariffs. Synthesiser manufacturer Moog made a similar appeal back in July.
