  • PioneerOn some more interesting hardware news of late, Pioneer Electronics have released details of their new DVJ-X1 digital audio and video turntable. A DVD mixing device for VJ's (Visual Jockeys) giving them some cutting edge/professional hardware to work with. This comes after the huge success of their CDJ-1000's, the digital CD turntable that has made it into many of the worlds leading venues around the world and is requested by most of the leading international DJs. The DVJ-X1 imitates the form and functionality of the CDJ-1000's (and looks similar although it is 25% larger) and allows DVJ's to manipulate DVD visuals in the same way they would music. This means crisp real-time digital video scratches, loops and instant cues with the audio and visuals in perfect sync. "Pioneer proved that we have our finger on the pulse of today's club scene when we forged the path from vinyl to CD in the world of dance music," said Karl Detken, director of marketing for the Pro Audio group at Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. "Now we're using Pioneer's experience in DVD technology to offer the next revolution for DJs. We believe this product will spawn a new breed of entertainer - the DVJ - combining the skills of a DJ and VJ for the ultimate dance experience. As a result, clubs that are already investing in video technology will be able to draw even more customers for a totally unique AV experience." The DVJ-X1 does open up a can of worms for the future of club nights but are Visual DJ's taking the main stage in place of the common DJ... not any time soon.
