  • If you're not trekking bush this weekend for Earthcore, but you're a hip hop fan, do not despair. DJ Food will be doing an encore gig on Friday December 5 at Fractured at Seven, alongside UK Breakbeat duo Phantom Beats. DJ Food (UK) was originally a collaboration between Matt Black & Jonathan More (Coldcut) and Patrick Carpenter (PC), featuring along the way contributions from others including Paul Brook, Paul Rabiger, Strictly Kev, Isaac Elliston. There is no one person who makes up DJ Food, it's more of a concept, best described as Food for DJs, simple as that! Matt Black & Jonathan More (aka Coldcut) started the DJ Food series of Jazz Brakes back in the early 90's, however the weight has shifted for now to PC & Strictly Kev as the band leaders / conductors, in conjuction with guest performers, producers & collaborations by the likes of Bundy K. Brown, Ken Nordine, & J. Swinscoe. Phantom Beats are Matt and Neil Phantom. They have a long history of DJing and live performances, with their mash-up DJ style bringing them to the attention of the promoters of Heavenly Jukebox, the birthplace of Big Beat, who shipped them to London. Then they turned a hand to production. Their first solo single "Growler" on Plastic Raygun had the likes of Rennie Pilgrem, Shut Up & Dance and 808 State on the phone praising their efforts, whilst Hybrid became such big fans they fused one of the boys' later tracks (”Don’t Care”) with Sasha's "Expander" for a bootleg which received massive attention. Their forthcoming tour is to promote their new single, “Rip It Up” on Plastic Raygun. It doesn't get better than this if you love breaks, beats and grooving sounds. DJ Food and Phantom Beats will be supported by the Fractured residents. Entry is $20 on the door, and kick off time is 10pm.
