  • Bugge Wesseltoft and his band New Conceptions of Jazz (NCOJ) fly in from Norway to deliver their take on nu jazz and deep electronic music this Friday 6 February, at The Basement. Bugge Wesseltoft is arguably one of the internationally best-known Norwegian performers. His hectic touring has secured him a loyal following wherever he plays. Bugge has for a number of years been a frequent act at the main summer festivals around Europe. His last performance at Sonar Festival in Barcelona again proved his ability to get the crowd into the hybrid grooves of jazz, electronica and powerful beats. Accompanied by great acts like Rainer Truby, Jazzanova, Matthew Herbert Big Band, Cinematic Orchestra and Jimi Tenor, Bugge and his New Conception of Jazz show an incredible passion and interest in their music, enabling them to connect with the crowd. Wesseltoft's conviction is that jazz is a performance art, thus the music is created while he is playing. He has recently collaborated live with artists like Laurent Garnier and John Scofield, which prove his ability to improvise and embrace different styles of music while having fun at stage. Warming things up before the NCOJ band will be Trevor Parkee with Nathan McLay, and Rob Somatik will join Bugge's DJ Jonas from Norway to bring the dancefloor action after the show. Tickets are $25 +bf from www.thebasement.com.au or on the door if still available. Don't miss this first class live show by a European legend!
