Wow! This one looks huge! Sjooshi andTriple J's 'The Club' have teamed up to present The Jazzbop vs Hiphop Festival over two nights on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 November at the Prince of Wales Hotel, St Kilda. The genres jazzbop and hiphop are so tightly interlinked it seemed obvious to bring them together, yet it's taken a while for a collection of London and New York's brightest and best hiphop, future soul, old school, live funk, jump-up jazz bop, drum'n'bass'n'downbeat, and all round good groove mash up artists to come together and play smaller, intimate venues and peddle the warms vibes the way they should be shared. So with nothing but good intent for a wicked party, the promters bring you The JazzBop vs HipHop Festival!
Legendary hip hop master Steinski who changed the face of hip hop as we know it, alongside New York neighbour, hip hop hobo and new blood DJ Signify will be there to represent. Then pulled from the pack of London's most respected underground, mash-up kings and heroes of the good groove The Nextmen, with their Bristol buddy, arguably the best drum'n'bass and cross-genre MC in the globe, the double-timing firecracker himself, Dynamite MC will be in full effect. Join this with the future soul, funk and jazz of the Quantic Soul Orchestra, performing with local pleasure purveyors The Bamboos, just to warm the spirit and those dancing feet. Top that off with live jazz vocalist Alice Russell, who couldn't be hotter right now and will no doubt sizzle our stage, and jazzbop musicologist and founder of the movement, Russ Dewbury himself to boot!
The huge lineup of artists will all be playing both nights, and the event kicks off early at 8pm.
