Womb Recordings, the label arm of Tokyo's famous Womb club have released the second CD in their "Live at Womb" series. The series began with a set recorded live by Christian Smith (boss of New York's Tronic Music) in October 2003. After something of a hiatus, Womb Recordings resumes its "Live at" series with a set by Joey Beltram recorded live at the end of 2004.
Joey Beltram came to prominence as one of the pioneers of early techno music with the ground breaking "Energy Flash" relased in 1990 on R&S - which in 2000 was voted by Muzik magazine as their Track of the Decade. Beltram continued to release tracks on leading underground labels such as R&S, Transmat, WARP, Tresor, Trax and Novamute throughout the 1990s.
The first few years of the new millenium saw relatively little activity from Beltram until last year, with October 2004's release of his new artist album, "The Rising Sun", on Tresor. Indeed, in an interview with Japanese newspaper to publicise "Live At Womb 02" Beltram declared "In the last year or so I've got my second wind. Around 1999 I got a little bored and started changing things. You need new ingredients to mix into the pot, and luckily in the past year a lot of new producers have started pushing the envelope a bit, which is exciting--and inspiring!"
