Exciting Scottish duo Silicone Soul will celebrate their new album ‘Staring Into Space’ on Soma Recordings with an exclusive US performance at Cielo (18 Little West 12th Street) during NYC’s Tartan Week. Joining them on the decks is fellow Scotsman Alex Smoke, who on the heels of his impressive debut album ‘Incommunicado’ is rapidly making a name for himself. Three & Peter Wohelski will add their flavour to the evening. This party is a part of Tartan week (April 4th -9th), a yearly Scottish cultural program sponsored by the Scottish Executive.
The Silicone Soul duo, Craig Morrison and Graeme Reedie are known for their deep groove and trademark liquid house sound, whilst Glaswegian newcomer Alex Smoke’s productions are turning up more than a few ears throughout the world with a host of big names championing his name.
Five years on, since Silicone Soul’s debut album ‘A Soul Thing’ was launched on soma the guys have spent the last half decade in and out of the studio impressing with their DJing performances and production/remix work as well as building up their Darkroom Dubs imprint. Alex Smoke’s debut has been heavily influenced by those around him and he is quick to sight the current world state of affairs as a direct driving force behind his work:“It's a combination of influences really; the notion that somehow, even with all the advances in the world and the pace of technology, we're becoming worse at communicating with each other, more selfish and less in touch with the world as a whole. The other reason is more personal, and just relates to me being quite distant sometimes, and wanting to live on a hill in a shed or something!”
Silicone Soul’s ‘Staring Into Space’ & Alex Smoke’s ‘Incommunicado’ album will be released on April 19th, 2005 on SOMA Recordings.
