  • In response to the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, the UK dance community is joining forces to fundraise and bring global awareness to the situation facing huge numbers of displaced people. Welcome to Tribal Gathering 2005 on Saturday July 16. Exactly 20 years after the legendary Live Aid concert, Tribal Gathering returns for the first time in eight years in a huge fund-raising venture. All profits from the event will go to the Playing Alive Foundation, a charity that will then pass it on to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) in aid of the massive humanitarian disaster in Sudan. All the artists are donating their time for free, with the first round of confirmed names already making this one of the top sounding summer festivals of the year. French pioneer Francois K, Groove Armada in their only Live summer show, Audio Bullies, Bugz In The Attic, Norman Jay, Zero 7 and DJ Yoda have all slotted the date into their itinerary’s. Event organiser David Vincent is hoping this will have the same positive affect Live aid has 20 years ago.
“20 years ago I was inspired by Live Aid and watching what Sir Bob Geldof and rock music did for the starving in aid of Ethiopia. After watching those terrible pictures of the people in Darfur suffering last year, rather than sitting back, I find myself in the position to link up dance music’s finest to perform an historic event in aid of Sudan and give our own electronic interpretation. It gives me a great sense of pride and honour that my dance music peers have shown their faith in me as an organiser to play totally for free!”
Set across 4 arenas Tribal Gathering will be an open-air festival and will accommodate 20,000 dance revellers. In typical Tribal Gathering mysticism, the location is being kept a deliberately guarded secret – but we can reveal is that it will be set in ‘secret enchanted woodlands’ near Leeds. Tickets are priced at £39 plus booking fee for the first 5000 (£45 plus booking fee after that) and will go on sale to the general public on 14th March via the Tribal Gathering hotline 0161 832 1111 or online at Ticket Line.
