  • Mixmag Live, the compilation series from one of the UK's longest-standing clubbing magazines burst into life in 1991 when Dave Seaman and Carl Cox put together two sparkling mixes for the first ever volume. At that time, the people who bought that first tape were also buying a piece of history since it was the world's first ever legal DJ mix compilation and, like subsequent volumes of Mixmag Live since: it rocked! Eleven years later, and everyman and his dog are churning out 'DJ Mix Hits' compilations. However Mixmag still think they do it best, for three very simple reasons. Firstly they're only interested in DJs who are interesting and talented rather than those who have a good public profile and will shift loads of units. Second, they are not a house series, a drum 'n' bass series, a breakbeat series nor a chillout series - they're all of these things, and simply represent the best from a genre. Thirdly, unlike many other record companies there is no team of marketing bods sitting in the office trying to decide which chart hits to put on the next album. They leave the compiling of each Mixmag Live album to the people who know best - the DJs. In passing years Mixmag Live has featured the artistry of 40 of the world's most talented DJs and has expanded their formats to include CD and unmixed DJ-friendly vinyl versions. RA can announce that the latest installment will be helmed by Canada's Max Graham, who has recently scored big with the commercial success of his remix of Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart". The compliation will see a UK release date on June 6th, 2005 with a full global release to follow shortly.
