Barefoot (Sam Obernik and Tommy D) will release their eponymous debut album in the new year. The duo have ripped apart club classics, stripped them to their bare bones and although you may not recognise them at first due to the melodies and chord changes having been re-written completely the chorus will often give it away.
Sam is well known for her work on fronting 'It Just Won't Do' and co-writing Tim Deluxe's album Little Ginger Club Kid. This is her first project since then and sees her teaming up with old skool producer (Bjork, Kylie, Neneh Cherry), DJ (Cream, Ministry, Sound Factory) and friend Tommy D. Much like an extraordinarily high number of good ideas, this concept was born over a bottle of wine. Describing the project Sam gives props to Tim Deluxe and is clearly delighted at the final product:"I owe a lot to Tim, While I was recording my solo album and promoting It Just Won't Do, [the label] Underwater asked me to perform on Jo Whiley's Live Lounge. So I rearranged the song, put some chords to it and turned it into a Cubano-type affair. It really worked and got repeat plays, which made me ask the question: how can I bridge the gap between my success in dance and what I love to do for me, which is writing my own songs with my guitar. We're putting this out to prove a point. Not a point to sell, but to point out that these are great songs. Dance music is made up of great tunes – and it certainly isn't dead like some people have been saying! So whatever fun you had out of your mind fifteen years ago, you can have even more now. We want to reconnect people emotionally with these songs."
Self funded and without label induced time limits the could develop the album in the ir own time and have reworked the well known tracks below:
