Two London festivals focusing on electronic music were born in 2005. One, London Calling, hugely disappointed with un-interesting panels, safe musical options and as a result poor crowds. The other, Encompass, went about it the right way. Combining an array of London venues, showcasing the sounds of exciting, envelope pushing artists and holding intelligent industry panels with thought provoking discussion topics. Encompass has the far brighter future of the two.

After the launch last week with James Holden At The Controls, Encompass 2006 (Thursday May 11, Friday May 12, Saturday May 13) have mapped out their first line-up and its already looking like covering a wide breadth of East London venues and interesting sounds. Encompass' Jon Terry tells us they are focussing on the strengths of their 2005 debut:
“We’re focussing on the Festival and the Workshop as the two best elements of our first year. In addition, we are expanding the partner event programme: promoters interested in participating should visit the website to find out more and we are also looking for unsigned acts to play support slots at each label showcase, so send demos in now.”
Across the 4 days, artists like Crazy Girl (Live), Mark Rae, Spektrum (Live), DJ Vadim, Eclectic Method (Live), Padded Cell (Live), Silicone Soul, Vector Lovers live, James Holden and a host of others will light up venues like Cargo, 93 Feet East, Herbal, the Rhythm Factory and Ministry Of Sound.
