Jeremy P. Caulfield's label Dumb-Unit join the throng to spread the techno gospel far and wide via their spanking new website.
Richie Hawtin is not the only Canadian to have carved a niche for himself as a purveyor of minimal techno. Toronto's Jeremy P.Caulfield founded the Dumb-Unit label in the year 2000 and since then has brought us some of Canada's finest electronic talent including Jake Fairley, Adam Marshall and Mike Shannon. Now based in Berlin, more recently Dumb-Unit has been embracing the deep hypnotism of Giorgio Gigli and the boogie tech of Sweet 'n Candy.
The new Dumb-Unit website features a classic bedroom mix from Caulfield recorded on a cassette player at his parents house around 1996. The mix features the dub techno classic 'M5' by Maurizio plus assorted minimal goodies from the Speed record store where Adam Marshall was the buyer.
This week sees the label release the 'crisp driving minimal alla Bolognese' 'Duo-Deno' EP cooked up by Touane & Nuel while next month Caulfield follows up his recent impressive remix of Butane and Someone Else's 'Tigerbitch' with 'Tumble-Dry', his first 12" on Dumb-Unit since last June.
Come the second weekend of May, an estimated 60,000 paulistanos will converge on Sao Paulo's Anhembi for South America's largest electronic music festival.
