  • 'Superlongevity 4’ is the latest compilation from Perlon, the hardworking label that got up early and isn't slinking off to bed anytime soon. Looking for the latest minimal techno fly-by-nighters? Try elsewhere. First label comp 'Superlongevity' came out in 1999 and featured many of the same names as the brick-like 4LP newie just released May 22nd, label heads Dimbiman (aka Zip), Markus Nikolai and psychedelic dreamer Ricardo Villalobos popping in on both volumes. This is not a label easily rocked by tides of fashion: Perlon leads more than follows, making its own splashes with a doggedly distinctive sound that eschews false melodies and romance in favor of cut-up and distilled soups of groove. Sound dull as ditchwater? The surprising part is that Perlon isn’t. Minimal techno in the wrong frame of mind can be anti-party music, bespectacled and autistic, but Perlon in a bad mood is just silly, and the good news is in a good mood it’s bonkers and slutty. Their records also sound great on big club systems, intricate yet thoroughly danceable: many an unbelieving clubber has chanced upon a Perlon party and come out converted. But for music so directly connected to the club, it’s gratifying that Perlon treats casual fans (aka home listening nerds) with a monetary respect: it regularly releases label comps on CD and vinyl, always brimming with spanking cuts that haven't found their own outlet. RA prays in church on Sundays that more labels would do the same. Latest emission ‘Superlongevity 4’ (get it? There’s a word hidden in there. It took us a while) features fresh cuts from techno stalwart Baby Ford, Kalabrese from Stadtmusik, as well as the Chilean/German axis of Villalobos, Luciano and Dandy Jack. Longtime Perlon staffers Melchoir Productions, Soulphiction and Horror Inc (aka Canadian house splicer Akufen) also put in their regular hours.
