  • Third studio album for Chicken Lips 'Making Faces' finally gets a worldwide release this Friday. The new longplayer sees the band joined by a singer-songwriter as the group delve into songs for the first time. Chicken Lips are founding duo Dean Meredith and Andy Meecham plus stealth member Steve Kotey who moonlights as the band's official DJ. Meredith and Meecham blitzed their way through the late eighties and early nineties rave scene as Bizarre Inc. and since then, along with Kotey, they have been dabbling with soul, dub, funk, electro and disco. The trio have rocked up two albums and remixed artists such as Maurice Fulton and Tiga. For their fourth album 'Making Faces', the trio have hooked up with singer-songwriter Johnny Spencer, whose vocals have been described as "a wonderful mixture of David Bowie, Prince and Curtis Mayfield". Although the album title might hint at a breezy approach to lyrics, according to the band each track can be likened to an emotional rollercoaster. Spencer explains:
"Thematically speaking, these songs are about love, upheaval and anxiety and overcoming the latter through the power of the former two. In short; changing your way of life can really put you back on the good foot and give you the opportunity to see the world from a new perspective."
Along with Spencer's vocals, 'Making Faces' again sees the Chicken Lips combining soul, dub, nu-disco and funk. It includes earlier 12 inches 'Sweet Cow' and 'White Dwarf' plus current single 'Motion Sickness'. Chicken Lips - Making Faces Tracklist 1. Sweetcow 2. Without Sound 3. Hot Love 4. Lovin Cup 5. Aim Fire (XDC) 6. Twiggy 7. White Dwarf 8. Motion Sickness Chicken Lips 'Making Faces' on Adrift Recordings will be in stores worldwide this Friday, July 22nd, 2006.
