Debut album from Trentemøller promises to reveal a downtempo side to the upstart Dane. ‘The Last Resort’ arrives on Poker Flat on October 6.
Trentemøller is known for his way with the huge crescendo on his dance cuts, so it comes as a surprise that he’s promising to move away from his signature maximalist production style on his debut album. Don’t expect too many dancefloor bombs, Trentemøller intends ‘The Last Resort’ to be a more contemplative beast well suited for home listening.
“What came out of the recording sessions for ‘The Last Resort’ was a very personal album,” Trentemøller explains. “It reflects my life, my thoughts, my needs, my insecureness, my longings. It was a challenge to express these feelings and moods without words, only with music."
The album was recorded over the course of last year in between sessions for his twelve inches and remixes. "Making these tracks was like having time off", says Trentemøller, "Moments to totally space out and let the music flow."
When dance artists make albums, the results can sometimes be uneven, with producers shoehorning their dancefloor tendencies into a home listening format. But while the maximalist zing of the ‘Physical Fraction’ and ‘Polar Shift’ singles are what propelled the Dane to fame, these days Trentemøller doesn’t see himself as someone who just produces dance-tech. Why not?
"Because I have always made all kinds of music,” explains Trentemøller. “In the studio, I never think about which genre it is or what target group it is for, I just make the music I feel like.”
Those hankering after guaranteed Trentemøller bombs would do well to be in quick as initial orders of the album will ship with a limited edition bonus CD featuring nine of Trentemøller’s biggest dance cuts. The bonus CD also contains two vocal tracks recorded for the album which Trentemøller decided to leave off the final version.
"When I listened to the final sequence of tracks, it felt as if I was listening to the soundtrack of a movie, that unfolded before my eyes,” explains Trentemøller. “For me it was important that the music would tell the story. Vocal tracks would mix up the whole feeling of a sound picture."
Together the two CDs promise to contrast two sides of Anders Trentemøller: outgoing techno maximalist versus introspective man of melancholy. Both vinyl and CD versions of the album will be released unmixed.

‘The Last Resort’ by Trentemøller will be released on Poker Flat Recordings October 6, 2006. The 12” single ‘Always Something Better’ will be released as a taster for the album in September, featuring remixes by Matthew Herbert and Trentemøller.
