Villalobos, Bucci and Parrish on the Lovebox

Nothing on the box this weekend? Then head out to London outdoor festival Lovebox Weekender where Ricardo Villalobos, Pier Bucci and Theo Parrish will all be spinning.

The Lovebox Weekender is the London outdoor festival started by Groove Armada. The Lovebox name was first born back in May 2002 as the title of Groove Armada's London club residency but since then it has tagged a multitude of club nights, boat parties and now a two-day festival, the Lovebox Weekender. This year's festival takes place on Saturday July 22 and Sunday July 23 in ultra trendy East London green spot, Victoria Park.

Acts to look out for on the Saturday include hosts Groove Armada, X-Press 2, Hot Chip and Cut Copy who will all headline the main stage. The Secret Sundaze mob of James Priestley and Giles Smith will also host a stage sporting plenty of Chilean minimal goodness from Ricardo Villalobos and Pier Bucci [Crosstown Rebels]. Sunday promises a more loved-up housey vibe in the sunshine with Jamiroquai and Jimmy Cliff on the main stage and DJs including Theo Parrish, DJ Spinna, Norman Jay and Layo & Bushwacka on various stages around the park.

If you're still not convinced enough to leave your lounge room, latest word from the Lovebox office is that a sizeable chunk of the advance tickets have been scooped up by ladies. It could be that a bunch of blokes have used the missus' card on the sly to buy their tickets or it could mean the Lovebox will be a hens night like no other. Either way lads, choose your t-shirt carefully before heading out. For girls, um, look out for the guys with the best t-shirts!

The music stops at 10:30pm on each night but the fun doesn't end there as it's the afterparties where the Lovebox comes into its own. After all, in this case, afterparty means your typical Saturday night out in London. The Official Lovebox Weekender Afterparty takes place at Ministry of Sound and will include the Groove Armada Soundsystem, Ashley Beedle, Roots Manuva, Marc Hughes and Unabomber but you could also kick onto its unofficial rival Mulletover which has Dinky [Cocoon] and Perlon Records boss Zip.

Lovebox Weekender takes place 12:00pm - 10:30pm on Saturday July 22 and Sunday July 23 at Victoria Park, Hackney in London. comment 10 Comments

Thu, 27 Jul 2006Gave this a massive swerve because we'd heard villalobos was doing Secret sundaze at the light bar the next day. However his manager booked him in at a hotel at gatwick so he didnt show (wasn't allowed more like) Heard mixed reviews of lovebox. Glad I didnt bother.
