  • It's been a decade since Manchester's Dpercussion festival first sprung up. This Saturday, DJs including Maurice Fulton and Recloose will join in on the tenth anniversary celebrations. Originally called Repercussion, Dpercussion was born out of the ashes of the IRA bomb which ripped apart Manchester ten years ago. After the redevelopment of the city, a music festival was organised with the aim of promoting the positive outcomes of the bomb. In 1998, the festival shifted its focus away from being a memorial event for the blast and changed its name to Dpercussion, D stands for digital. This year's Dpercussion features sixty bands and eighty-five DJs performing on eight stages including Recloose [Planet E] and David Holmes. There will be also be numerous afterparties around the city with the official one at the Music Box headlined by experimental house jock Maurice Fulton. Dpercussion has been cancelled twice in the last four years due to a lack of funding. Once again the plug was almost pulled on this year's festival so 2006 festival-goers will be asked to make a £2 donation at the entrance. Dpercussion takes place at Deensgate Locks, Manchester this Saturday, August 5th, 2006.
