The Big Chill is the boutique festival started by Pete Lawrence and Katrina Larkin twelve years ago. It originally began as a Sunday chill-out and social club night in London. After their first outdoor event in the Welsh Black Mountains the festival moved to Dorset's Larmer Tree Gardens before finding its current home at the Eastnor Castle Deer Park. Besides the festival which pulled in 30,000 folk earlier this month there's also The Big Chill Bar in East London and The Big Chill House, another London venue opening August 25, 2006.
Compiled and sequenced by organiser co-founder Pete Lawrence 'The Big Chill' double CD set is a collection of folktronica and contemporary downtempo cuts including tracks from Nitin Sawhney, Nightmares on Wax, Ulrich Schnauss, Bent, St. Etienne, Boards of Canada, John Martyn, José González and Jamie Lidell. The comp is typical of the broad and eclectic sounds heard at the annual festival.
