Sharam from Deep Dish splits from his other half on the latest Global Underground comp 'Dubai GU29'. The result is two CDs of prog including cuts from 16Bit Lolitas, Creamer & K and Pig & Dan.

Sharam Tayebi is the bearded half of Deep Dish, the prog house duo whose debut album 'Junk Science', label Yoshitoshi and Global Underground albums GU21 and GU25 earmarked them as America's biggest progressive house act. The pair won a Grammy for their remix of Dido's Thank You' in 2002 and have slowly been creeping overground since. Second album 'George is On' spawned big radio-friendly singles 'Flashdance', 'Say Hello' and 'Dreams' but recently the Sharam and Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia have pared back on their production and DJ duties together.

So what does Sharam sound like without Dubfire? Judging by the tracklisting, perhaps not that different. Inspired by his gig at Dubai superclub Trilogy in April this year CD1 of GU29 includes tracks from well-known proggers 16Bit Lolitas, Sultan & Ned Shepard and Creamer & K plus the Deep Dish remix of Paul Van Dyk's 'The Other Side'. Second disc taps Spanish remix duo Spider & Legaz, latest Yoshitoshi signing Miss Nine and guitar-proggers Planet Funk with a pinch of techno from Felipe & Nicholas Bacher and Valentino Kanzyani.

Before GU29 hits the streets, Sharam will tour North America stopping off in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Denver and San Francisco.

IMHO
GU: Moscow - Excellent
GU: Toronto - Exellent
GU: Afterhours - Sharam - Excellent
GU: Afterhours - Dubfire - I did not really like it
GU: Taipei - Unheard
IMHO
I liked Sharams take on Toronto Afterhours more than Dubfire.
Thinking it was safe in assuming I liked Sharams style better, I invested in GU29. It has its moments where I can relate based on his vibe up until this release. Other times his vibe has evolved in a direction I can not place just yet. I really expected... More
