Agoria’s newie ‘The Green Armchair’ promises to deliver gothic pop techno as only the French can do. First single ‘Code 1026’ is out now, and is well worth a listen - it's already seeing support from the likes of Tiga, Laurent Garnier, Felix Da Housecat, James Holden and Carl Craig.
If you like your techno with a bit of noise to it, France is the ticket. There’s the new kids Justice and the Ed Banger crew, there’s old hands like Ivan Smagghe, Daft Punk and Mr. Oizo, and then there’s Different Recordings. Like labelmates Etienne de Crecy, Vitalic and The Hacker, Agoria releases house that’s as in love with sharp edges and guitars as it is rhythms. Electro rock? Emo house? Dunno, but like the label says, it’s different.
Son of an opera singer, Agoria has been producing his own material since 1997. Tracks such as 'La 11ème Marche', 'Les Beaux Jours' and ‘Stereolove’ have become minor classics, and first album ‘Blossom’ was praised widely for its mix of metallic scrape and French house accessibility.
Agoria is also a fine touring DJ, and as last year’s 'Cute & Cult' compilation proved, he’s not afraid to take risks (like dropping Iggy’s sleep-deprived ‘Nightclubbing’ in the middle of the dancefloor. Sacré bleu!)
The newie is a guest-laden affair, featuring the vocals of eighties pop idol Neneh Cherry, goth royalty Peter Murphy from Bauhaus and East Village rock’n’rapper Princess Superstar.
