She’s the latest signing to Get Physical, home to Booka Shade and one of the most watched labels around. Not only was her first 12” released on the respected Berlin imprint, but she’s also mixed their latest compilation ‘Monza Club Ibiza Compilation Vol. 1’. So just who is Heidi?

Those who don’t follow Get Physical too closely might have thought the first woman on the label was M.A.N.D.Y, but that’s two men actually, and the honour rightfully goes to Heidi. Originally from Canada but now based in London, vinyl junkies might recognise her face from behind the counter at Soho record shop Phonica, but by night she's secretly a working DJ, spinning at respected parties at top venues such as Space Ibiza, Fabric and the Panoramabar in Berlin.

And while some DJs take ten years to get around to releasing their first mix CD (hi Marco Carola), Heidi doesn’t mess around: 'Monza Club Ibiza Compilation Vol. 1' has just been released on Get Physical. Not a bad gig. Not envious enough yet? Recently she’s also been stepping into production too, with her first single 'Vejer' on Get Physical showing a taste for ravey, epic electrohouse.

So inquiring minds want to know: how does a new DJ find their feet so quickly? RA sat down with Heidi in London and found out.

Thu, 26 Oct 2006Don't worry Heidi...minimal is boring!! I didn't get the impression u were putting anyone down or slagging them off after reading the    interview. On another note...Glad that phonica is doing well it wasn't opened when I lived there. We've actually met a couple of times. I used to book parties at Plan B & The Telegraph down in Brixton. Mates w/ Stuart Geddes and few other fewls u might now. Congrats on the good things that are coming ur way!Keep it rolling

Wed, 25 Oct 2006I kinda mean the whole aesthetic, the DJs too. Not to say that I don't like some releases on the label ('25 Bitches' is one of my favourites this year) but they also release terribly boring music too (the new one JLPS 'Program' is a shocker). As for DJs, I don't mind 'em playing a bit of Minus-y stuff, but when it done in a purist way and goes on all night like it's the only music that matters, I want to go home.

Wed, 25 Oct 2006Jeremy: do you mean- m_nus releases?or- dj'ing by m_nus artists? These being very different animals in my book. Or do you actually mean both?... Bear in mind tht Hawtin re-activated Plus 8 last year for releases by Adam Beyer and Alex Under.

Tue, 24 Oct 2006I realise this puts me in the minority in clubland but the Minus thing is SO BORING. Minus is to dance as metal is to rock: too much technical proficiency, power fantasy, masculinity and gear fetishization and not enough human feeling, melody and delight.Keep on with boogie, Heidi
