  • Don't say you haven't thought of it. Clubbing versus glow-in-the-dark night tennis is the latest concept to hit Madrid clubland. Clubland sees its fair share of strange combos - hairdressers snipping away on the dancefloor, dancing vs live painting, foam parties anyone? - but next week's Night Tennis do in Spain aces the competition as far as unlikely bedfellows go. The night will start with a few sets of ball thwacking, replete with electronic beats in place of gruff umpire calls, before spectators are invited onto the court for a few DJ sets of club action. The clubbing vs. tennis party is happening as part of the serious tennis tournament the Sony Ericsson Championships, but what's even stranger is the court action is taking place in the dark. Huh? Doesn't sound like much of a spectator sport, but don't worry, you'll be able to keep your binoculars on the ball because everything (the players, the net, the court) will glow in the dark rave style. And the music? Top seeds of British dance music Groove Armada and Darren Emerson are set to spin on two consecutive evenings. An odd one for sure, but game, set and match to the promoters, obviously. Night Tennis takes place at the Polytechnica de Madrid Sports Hall with Darren Emerson holding court on November 9 and Groove Armada on November 10, 2006.
