Who’d have thought that one of the biggest techno tracks of the year would be a whopping thirty-seven minutes long and feature a Gypsy marching band? ‘Fizheuer Zieheuer’ by Ricardo Villalobos arrives on vinyl and CD next week.
‘Fizheuer Zieheuer’ has been the secret weapon in the techno maverick’s box since early summer. Playhouse label boss Roman Flugel, who has been caning the record himself lately, describes the track in an RA interview. “I think it might be the longest techno track in history. It goes on for ten minutes or so and then suddenly this huge brass that he sampled from Gypsy records comes in. It is a totally different world that comes as a big surprise for people in the club. The reactions are incredible.”
The track, which has been closing out Villalobos’ sets all summer, including his rated Awakenings in July, is being praised by DJs for being as mixable as it is unusual. Recent EPs have seen Villalobos stretching out his productions for longer and longer, but this time at thirty-seven minutes, ‘Fizheuer Zieheuer’ spills off the vinyl halfway though, with the second half playing on the B-side. Playhouse are also issuing a limited edition CD version that’ll feature the full track uninterrupted as well as a second “stripped-down-to-the-bone beat version” titled ‘Fizbeast’ that promises extra beats for DJs to play with.
