Heads up – Monsieur La Rock’s debut mix CD ‘This is the Sound of Citizen’ is being readied for release. RA takes a sneak peek at what’s in store.
In case you’ve been living under la rock, Vitalic is the force behind last year’s longplayer ‘OK Cowboy’ and the massive ‘Poney EP’ from 2001, the latter of which was four songs of rock-inflected electro which claimed peaktime dancefloors as its own for years. But Vitalic’s latest project is a DJ mix, a bit of a sideways move for a man more known for his storming productions and live act than turntabling.
The tracklist for the mix hasn’t been confirmed officially yet – Vitalic’s imprint Citizen are labelling it “top secret” and have pushed back the release date from November 13th to January next year. Citizen have confirmed to fansite vitalic.info that they’re experiencing delays licensing tracks.
But if you want a sneak preview of the likely candidates, RA has spotted the promo site for the album, complete with clips, hidden away within this web designer’s portfolio – just don’t take it as hundred percent gospel because it’s not official yet.
Despite the title, it looks like many of the tracks on ‘This is the Sound of Citizen’ won’t be plucked from Vitalic’s own label. Candidates up for selection are very, very big tunes indeed: Switch ‘A Bit Patchy’, Stephan Bodzin vs. Marc Romboy ‘Phobos’, Theo Parrish ‘Falling Up’ (Carl Craig remix), Thomas Schumacher ‘Red Purple’, Petter ‘Untight’, Implant ‘My Gun by Architect’ and Sebastien Tellier ‘La Ritournelle’. Better work on that title, Pascal.
But Vitalic’s stable does also make an appearance, with selected Citizen artists including rising electro producer John Lord Fonda, Marseilles producer Shockers, and the ‘Syd Barrett of electronic music’ Juantrip.
‘This is the Sound of Citizen’ mixed by Vitalic is due for release on Citizen Records January 23, 2007.
