The dark side of Jay Haze Pt. 1

The Fuckpony don talks minimal hype, superstar DJs and living on the streets in his first RA interview.

Jay Haze was in London for a gig at Fabric, solo then back to back with Ricardo Villalobos for afters. I’d heard some bad news – Haze had been left with little to no studio back in Berlin after a freak fire, and I arrived at the hotel wondering whether this might be my first interview no show. But within minutes, the industry’s most talked about character arrived in the lobby, not bling-blinged out like 50 Cent on a world tour, but dressed in plain jeans and a T-shirt.

I’d come armed with research into his productions and his label, the things that matter, right? I’d been listening all the way through from his early releases in the Contextterrior family [Tuning Spork, Textone, Future Dub] to recent big, souled out Fuckpony tracks on Get Physical, not to mention newly classic excursions such as ‘Soul in a Bottle’. But over a wide-ranging hour and a half, Jay Haze didn’t just talk music. Interview after the jump.comment 68 Comments

sorry for being 13 years old in a small town with no internet to tell me of the famous nyc graffiti artist HAZE.
damn that changes everything now!
i guess i agree with what alot of you guys are saying here, but i do think everyone is entitled to their opinion-
anytime one puts work out there to the public, whether it be music or performance of that music, they do so knowing that people will then have an opinion about... More

Thu, 13 Mar 2008I don't like this guy. For someone who was supposedly involved with Graffiti and writes 'Haze'? Come on man, that's a joke.

Check your head dumb dumb! Go read some Graffiti history books you clown!

The real Haze from New York is 10x the artist you will ever be - any type of medium and any type of format. That guy is responsible for the EPMD and Public Enemy logos not to mention Tommy Boy and Cold Chillin' and much much more.
