Bad news for ravers – this year’s Loveparade in Berlin has been officially cancelled.
The reason is a bureaucratic one. The Loveparade company has failed to secure permits for the mega-rave from city authority Landes Berlin, according to Loveparade managing director Rainer Schaller. The company tried several times to get written permission for the event, but time has now run out.
Additionally, the Loveparade company plans to ditch Berlin and hold the event elsewhere in the future, citing a lack of faith in the Berlin authorities as a reason for the decision. “We will search for another German or European city able and willing to host a new Loveparade for 2008,” declared Schaller.
The Loveparade was cancelled in 2004 and 2005 due to lack of sponsorship funds. The event made a successful comeback in 2006 under new management and with new sponsorship arrangements. “All partners we had in 2006 wanted to continue their support for a parade in 2007,” said a disappointed Schaller.
The Loveparade website has put an open request to interested German and European cities to apply to host Loveparade 2008.
